Adult orthodontic care

What cosmetic orthodontics means.

Cosmetic orthodontics focuses on improving the position of visible teeth while still considering bite, gum health, tooth wear and long-term stability. It may involve clear aligners, ceramic braces, metal braces or focused short-term treatment.

Dr Neil Lutton has provided clear-aligner and cosmetic orthodontic treatment for more than two decades. His postgraduate orthodontic training helps him assess whether a focused approach is appropriate or whether a more comprehensive plan is needed.

When treatment may be relatively short

Selected adults with mild to moderate crowding or spacing may achieve their main cosmetic goals in approximately six months. This is not a promise for every patient; treatment time depends on the starting position, required movements and bite.

Alignment before bonding or veneers

Moving teeth into a better position can sometimes reduce the amount of healthy tooth structure that needs to be altered during later cosmetic treatment.

Treatment options

  • Invisalign
  • Angel Aligner
  • Ceramic fixed braces
  • Metal fixed braces
  • Six Month Braces for suitable focused cases

Retention

Retainers are essential after treatment because teeth can move throughout life. Retention is planned from the start rather than discussed only at the end.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions.

Is cosmetic orthodontics the same as specialist orthodontics?

No. Treatment at The Dentistry is provided by dentists, including Dr Lutton who has postgraduate orthodontic training. He is not presented as a registered specialist orthodontist.

Can adults straighten only their front teeth?

Sometimes. A focused approach may be appropriate where the main concern is visible alignment and the bite is suitable.

Can orthodontics be combined with whitening or bonding?

Yes. Alignment is often completed first, followed by whitening and conservative bonding where appropriate.
