Root canal treatment Sydney CBD

Relieving pain while preserving the natural tooth.

Root canal treatment is used when the dental pulp becomes inflamed or infected because of decay, cracks, trauma or previous treatment. The aim is to remove infected tissue, disinfect and seal the canal system, and retain the tooth where it remains restorable.

Dr Neil Lutton completed the ADA Endodontics Mini Residency during 2025–2026, adding further training to his general dental experience.

Possible symptoms

  • Spontaneous or lingering toothache
  • Pain on biting
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Swelling or a gum boil
  • Darkening of a tooth

Treatment process

After diagnosis and local anaesthetic, the canals are accessed, cleaned, shaped and sealed. Treatment may take more than one appointment depending on the tooth and infection.

Restoring the tooth

Back teeth often require a crown after root canal treatment because they may be weakened by decay, cracks and the access cavity.

Fees

The published guide fee for a three-canal root canal treatment is $1,500–$1,950. A ceramic crown is listed separately at $1,863. Individual fees depend on complexity.
